Our dear mother, Patricia May McDonald (nee Turk) of Ottawa passed peacefully with family by her side, on February 25, 2023 and is now re-united with her beloved husband, Dr. Ian Johnson McDonald. She was the loving mother of Margaret (James) and James (Tina), as well as the caring grandmother of Katherine (Robert) and Elizabeth (David). Sister to the late Barbara Crysdale (John) and sister-in-law to the late Muriel Prittie (Wilmot) and loving aunt to John, Heather, Diane, Ralph, Donald, Frances and Margaret. Pat always kept her age a safely guarded secret, so we are continuing to honour her wish.
Patricia was born in Montreal and grew up in Ottawa, attending Ottawa Ladies College and Glebe Collegiate before heading to Queen’s University. After graduating, Bachelor of Arts, she returned to Ottawa to work at the National Research Council Library, where she met the love of her life. She and Ian were married in 1958.
While raising her two children and spending time with her granddaughters, Pat was also busy with many activities including sewing classes, bridge groups and rug hooking guilds. She enjoyed tennis, cross-country skiing, yoga, camping, and travel. She lived a long and active life and she will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Lord Lansdowne and from Seniors Solution for their compassionate care for Pat during her final years.
Visitation will be held at the McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home & Chapel 1411 Hunt Club Rd (at Bank St) on March 3 at noon. A service of Remembrance will follow at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in Pat’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County ( https://alzheimer.ca/ottawa/en; ), the Shepherd’s of Good Hope ( https://www.sghottawa.com/ ) or the charity of your choice.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.McEvoy-Shields.com for the McDonald family.
