Peacefully at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on Thursday, April 14. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Robert (Bob) Sweeney, her parents James Alban and Grace Anna, her siblings Joyce, Arline, Anna and Dan.
Mary will be sadly missed by her sisters Mona and Gladys, her brothers Kenneth (Shirley) and Gerald (Suzanne), sister in law Anita (Dan), brother in law Eric (Arline), many much loved nieces, nephews, and dear friends Sally, Gaetan, Gary and Lola.
Ever undaunted by challenges, when faced with the eventuality of losing her sight Mary channeled her efforts to helping others also facing vision impairment. Her efforts included learning and teaching Braille and keeping 150 members of the advocacy ‘Grad Group’ in touch with one another. She will be sorely missed by so many.
Friends may pay respects at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home and Chapel, 1411 Hunt Club Rd, Ottawa on Thursday April 28 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm and Friday April 29 from 1-2pm followed by a service in the chapel and a reception after the service.
Donations can be made to Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB)/Ottawa Grad Group and Ottawa Braille Group.
