Linda Louise Bond

It is with sadness that the family of Linda (Lynne) Bond announce her passing on April 27, 2021. Lynne was born on Feb 26, 1943 in Pike Lake Saskatchewan and is predeceased by her parents Fredrick and Edith Bond (Pippin), and her brother Fred. Lynne is survived by children Megan and Jill; grandchildren Laura, Catherine, Daniel, and Audrey; siblings Brian (Carol), Richard (Brenda), Beth (Larry) Tweedale and Roger (June) and many aunts, uncles and cousins, nieces and nephews.

Anyone who met Lynne, certainly didn’t forget her. She was determined, passionate and let everyone know what she was thinking.

Lynne’s life-long love of adventure and travel started in her 20’s when in Winnipeg, MB, she worked for Air Canada first, as a flight attendant, and then as one of the first women baggage handlers where she was strongly involved in collective bargaining for better wages and working conditions for employees. After moving to Ottawa, she went back to university and graduated from Carleton in 2000 with a Bachelor degree in Communication, moving on to become a certified travel agent which she did until she retired in 2014. Lynne saw age as only a number and never let anything hold her back; she was tenacious to the core.

Lynne advocated throughout her life supporting women’s and disability rights. She passionately advocated for her visually impaired daughter Jill throughout her school years. She helped raise funds for a school in Afghanistan as part of the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW).

She was a veracious reader who always carried a book with her, as such she loved participating in the crime fiction book club of CFUW. She also loved cats, dinning out, cooking, musicals, crosswords and trivia. She was proud she retained her memory and ability to finish the challenging Sudoku puzzles up until her passing and wanted everyone to know that “I kept my marbles until the very end”. Her tenacity, gregariousness, passion, and loyalty will be missed by all those fortunate enough to have had her in their lives.

In honour of her passion for helping others, the CFUW has created the Lynne Bond Memorial Scholarship that will be awarded at Carleton University for an undergraduate student with a disability with a good academic standing and registered with the Paul Menton Centre for disabilities at Carleton.
