Karin (née Emons) passed away at St. Patrick’s Nursing Home on May 12th after a short bout of pneumonia. She was predeceased by her husband C. Alan Barlow in 2012. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and their families in Germany. Karin was born in Oldenburg, Germany and met Alan, a Canadian, whilst he was studying in Germany. They married in Canada in 1960 and settled first in Leamington. They moved to Ottawa when Alan became Professor of Entomology at Carleton. Karin obtained her B.A. at Carleton and was hired as an economist at Canada Mortgage and Housing where she remained for over 20 years.
Karin loved nature; animals, wildlife and wilderness. She enjoyed walking, skiing, swimming, classical music and meeting her many friends.
Special thanks are due to Lise Secours for diligently caring for Karin during her final years and also to her wonderful care-givers Mercy Etokimo, Cecilia Serwah and Abigail Eboru.
Friends may pay their respects at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road (at Albion Road) on Saturday, May 21, 2016 after 10 a.m.. A Memorial Service will follow at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
