Jacquelyn Jane Baumberg (née Taylor) – Died suddenly on Thursday, December 28, 2023, in Ottawa, Ontario. Born in Gillingham, Kent, England on March 5, 1934 to Jack Taylor and Doris Smith. While growing up during the Second World War, at around the age of seven Jacquelyn (Jackie) was safely evacuated to Devon, where tragically her mother died after a sudden and unexpected illness. As her father was in the military, Jacquelyn spent the rest of her formative years living with her grandparents.
Jacquelyn attended Manchester University and obtained a degree in French, and in 1957 moved to Canada where she married Joseph Wolf Baumberg, also an immigrant from England.
Together they had five sons, and there are 5 grandchildren, all of whom survive her: Paul Baumberg of Canmore, Alberta; Timothy Baumberg of Ottawa, his daughters Julia and Anna; Simon Baumberg of Aachen, Germany, his daughter Vivienne; Nicholas Baumberg of Ottawa (wife: Michele Rodrick); Andrew Baumberg of Ottawa (wife: Apryl Wassaykeesic) and their children Solomon and Jill.
While raising the youngest of her sons, Jacquelyn went back to school and earned her teaching degree, spending the next 20 years teaching, first with the Child Study Center (University of Ottawa), and then with Riverview School (Ottawa Board of Education).
Jacquelyn was also a life-long lover of music, not only sharing her passion in the classroom, where she applied her qualifications in early childhood music education, the Carl Orff method, and the Kodály method, but also as the long time choir director and organist at Holy Cross Parish, and before that, at St. Bernard Parish, both in Ottawa.
Friends and family may pay their respects at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home (1411 Hunt Club Road, Ottawa), from 11am to 2pm on January 2, 2024.
A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Holy Cross Parish, 685 Walkley Road, Ottawa.
In memoriam, the family would like to direct donations to the Shepherds of Good Hope or Harvest House Ministries.
