With profound sadness, the family of Brian White announces his peaceful passing on Friday, February 10th, at the age of 76. Brian was so many things and meant so much to so many people. He was a son, a dad, pups, big brother, coach, and friend.
He was a son to the late Carl and Eleanor (Dixon) White. Loving husband and best friend to the late Marie (Clark) White. Caring father and grandfather to his extended family: Melanie, Andrew, Georgia and Elliot Riley; Brayden, Brooklynn and Drea White; Tanya, Jesse, Kayza and Ezra Gardiner; Sylvie Thompson and Claude Proulx; Angela, Yakup, Ella and Derya Elevli. Cherished Big Brother to Carl Jr, Danny, Lou, Eunice, Rosalyn and the late Susie. Brian was also a much loved nephew, cousin, uncle and great-uncle.
Outside of his family, Brian’s two biggest passions were basketball and golf. Brian was the first, and best, coach for many great Ottawa athletes and he will be fondly remembered for many years to come in the basketball and golf communities he touched. For this reason, we will be wearing our basketball jerseys and golf shirts as a tribute to him when we celebrate his life and we invite others to do the same.
Please join us for this celebration of his life on Saturday, February 18th, at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road, from 12-2pm as we gather with family and friends to remember Brian. A service in the chapel will follow at 2:00pm. His memorial service can also be viewed live or for replay at https://funeraweb.tv/diffusions/69229
In lieu of flowers, we would be so pleased if friends and family would consider donating to the Brian White Memorial Award for Athletic Achievement: https://gofund.me/b60d3331 To ensure his legacy lives on, his children have established this award to be given each year to an Algonquin College Thunder Women’s player who best exemplifies the qualities Brian valued in athletes he coached and in himself.
