Norine Marie Jelmberg

Norine Marie Jelmberg, 79, passed away at home with her family, on February 21, 2014. Norine displayed courage and grace during her 12 year struggle with cancer. Norine lived in Othello for 52 years after moving to town in 1962 to help her husband, Jack, establish his veterinary practice. Norine was born on November 28, 1934 in Malone, Washington, to Edwin and Gertrude (Otto) Dubuque. She was the youngest of 8 children. When Norine was 10 years old, her mother passed away. She was then lovingly cared for by her oldest “sister/mother”, Eleanor (Bob) Ledgerwood, in Olympia, Washington. Norine graduated from Olympia High School in 1952. She then attended WSU for two years, where here life long friend, Carolyn, introduced her to her true love, Dr. Jack Jelmberg. They were married on July 17, 1955. Norine had a very active intellect and was an avid reader. She remained very informed on current affairs and was quite passionate about her country. Over the years, Norine volunteered for the Campfire Girls, the American Cancer Society, and the public library. She appreciated great works of art and liked photography and gardening. Her greatest hobby was enjoying her grandchildren. Norine served in several ministries at the Othello Nazarene Church over the last 30 years. She managed the kitchen for a time and was always ready with food, support, and love for those suffering. She delivered recording s of church services to elderly people who could not get out, along with hugs and cookies. Norine took several children into her home when they were in a tough spot and was also a foster parent. Wherever Norine went, she was a favorite of all. She carried the blessing of the Holy Spirit, the sacrificial love of Jesus, and the unconditional acceptance of the Father. Everyone felt a sense of love and comfort in her presence. Those who had stumbled and fallen felt a sense of hope and encouragement. Those who were abandoned felt comfort and safety. Those who had achieved a goal felt inspired to grow even more. Norine truly fed His sheep, spiritually and materially. Her spiritual gift was the greatest of all the gifts, the gift of love. Norine was greeted in heaven by her husband Jack, 5 grandchildren, and 6 of her siblings. She is survived by her sister Loretta (Chuck) Graves of Wenatchee; stepmother in law, Doris (George) Jelmberg of Othello; sons, Jeffery (Sue) Jelmberg of Othello, and Stevens (Sabra) Jelmberg of Arizona; daughters Julie (Joe) Rose of Wyoming, and Marilee (Bryan) Johnson of Othello; brothers in law William(Jackie) Jelmberg of Missouri, and George (Shelly) Jelmberg ofRoyal City; sisters in law Maria (Wiley) Allred of Royal City; and Anna (Allen) Jelmberg-Miedema of Bothell; numerous nieces and nephews in Olympia and California; 6 grandsons, 6 granddaughters, and 3 great grandchildren. Norine (and her family) treasured her beloved chemo nurses and staff at Kadlec and her oncologist at CBHO. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to the American Cancer Society. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 1st, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Othello Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Robert Luhn officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Steven’s Funeral Chapel.
