After a long, happy and loving life, our mother, Margaret Irene Hunter passed away at the Traditions of Durham senior’s residence on March 16, 2023. Margaret is survived by her four children: Catherine (Terence), Karen (Lisa), John (Heather) and Brian (Joanne), seven of her eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Wilbert and Minnie Stewart welcomed their first child Margaret Irene on May 5th, 1927 in Orillia, Ontario. Margaret had four brothers whom she loved dearly as well as their families. She was extremely proud of her Stewart heritage.
Margaret met the love of her life, Jack Hunter and after they were married in 1950, they purchased their first home in Toronto where they raised their four children. When Jack’s company, ITT Cannon Electric moved their head office to Whitby in the early 1970s, Marg and Jack sold their Toronto home and moved too. Jack passed away in April, 1999 and Margaret continued living in the family home for another 24 years. In August of 2021, Margaret moved to Traditions of Durham, a senior’s residence where she lived for the rest of her life.
Margaret lived a simple but meaningful life and was cherished by all who knew her. She will always be remembered for her kind heart, sense of humor and unwavering love for her family and friends as well as her garden and of course, her poodles. She also made the best fudge!
Her family will miss her but feel extremely fortunate to have had such kind, gentle and loving parents. She will always be in our hearts.
A private funeral is planned and Mom will be buried with Dad at Groveside Cemetery in Whitby. Our family would like to thank the Oncology dept at Lakeridge Hospital, Dr Osborne and all the Home Care nurses and PSWs for taking such good care of our mother. We would especially like to thank the staff at Traditions of Durham for the love and care they gave to our mother over the past two years.
