Roland “Sonny” Dennis, 78, of Ormond Beach, passed away on March 11, 2012 at Florida Hospital Memorial, Daytona Beach, FL. “Sonny” was born on June 29, 1933 in Baltimore, MD to the late Roland L. Dennis, Sr. and Virginia Mae (Way) Dennis. “Sonny” proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he served with the 13th Airborne, 2nd Infantry. He worked as Captain of Lifeguards for Daytona and Ormond Beach and had over 30 years of service with the City of Ormond Beach. “Sonny” was a Freemason, and a member of the NRA. He enjoyed all types of firearm activities. Survivors include his son, Tate Dennis; his 2 grandchildren, Alex and Mariah Dennis; and his former spouse, Ruby Gartley. A Tribute for “Sonny” will be held on Saturday, March 24, from 12:00 pm -3:00 pm in the Bear Creek Clubhouse #3, 6 Bear Path, Ormond Beach, FL 32174(off Airport Rd. in North Ormond Beach). Memorial donations may be made in memory of Roland to the Volusia County Beach Services Junior Lifeguard Program, 515 South Atlantic Ave., Daytona Beach, FL 32114.
