Raymond N Whitt

Raymond N. Whitt, 94, of Holly Hill passed away Thursday May 3, 2018. Born in Roxboro, NC, Ray was the son of Maggie and Hutch Whitt. Ray has been a resident of this area since 1958 and owned and operated Ray Whitt’s Used Cars in Holly Hill. He left school after the sixth grade to help his family after his father’s death working in the tobacco fields and often had the best crop in the County. He honorably served in the U.S. Navy. An avid bowler he took pride in bowling a perfect game at Halifax Lanes. He had a passion for NASCAR and raced a Volvo in the mini stocks with his friend Ed Brown as his crew chief. The thing he enjoyed most was his family and talking to people. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his daughter Wandy Brooks (Duck). Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 57 years, Nellie; children; Donna Brustad (Eric), Owen Whitt (Mimi), Karen Brigg (Mike), David Whitt (Wendy), Earl “Buddy” Whitt , Joseph “Rusty” Whitt, Joann Sikes (Joe) and Jeannie Taylor, 14 grandchildren , 10 great grandchildren and several brothers and sisters in NC. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 8, 2018 1:00 pm- 2:00 pm at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home 548 N Nova Rd Ormond Beach, FL. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Mt Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery, Roxboro NC.
