Jonathan Levi Collins (known as just Jon) passed away on December 26, 2022 at home in Ormond Beach. Jon struggled with his mental health and suffered from heart disease and honestly he was one of the strongest young men I know to have moved on one day to the next with his health issues.
Jon was known as many things to many people. He was a loved Son, Grandson, Soul Mate, Nephew, Cousin, a friend, and someone special to many others. To family and friends who knew him best, Jon will be remembered for his quirks, humor, laugh and his like for Dunkin, McDonalds and a Coke.
Jon was born on March 8, 1985 at Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach, Florida. Jon was an original Floridian and there aren’t many originals any more. He was the son of Terry and Kim and Jon grew up in Bunnell, Branford and Ormond Beach Florida.
As a young boy, Jon enjoyed playing and making up games. He was curious about the world around him and was often eager to explore it. Jon was an active child and played baseball for 2 years. Jon liked to ride his go kart & dirt bike build puzzles, play with his toys or work on the race car with dad. To Jon the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with his family & friends.
Jon attended Bunnell Elementary, Wadsworth Elementary, Buddy Taylor Middle School and Flagler Palm Coast High School. Jon’s favorite teacher was his Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Harris. He didn’t really have a favorite class in school.
One year in elementary school after care Jon hid a girls Sandals in the sand on the playground, , but he got in trouble with the teacher on duty and had to tell where they were. We think he did it because he liked her.
Jon was always considered a “good” friend to those he would let get close. Jon enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during his lifetime. While growing up, some of his friends were: Gator, Andrea, Ashley, Scott, Amanda & Joey. Later in life, he became friends with Mike and Chrystal and his best Friend Jessica.
Jon worked for a time at the Stewart Marchman workshop where they did various piecework jobs for local companies. Jon would ride the bus to work, but I can still recall the day Jon called me… “Mom he said” can you come and pick me up today; I want you to meet someone (of course I said yes!) and that is when I met Jessica for the 1st time. As she was walking up the aisle to us, they both had the biggest ear to ear grins and I immediately knew they were made for each other.
Jon has 3 Step Sisters, Viola, Deanne and Nicki. Nicki was his “Sissy” or (Sissy Bear) as he often called her and he was close with her as they were close in age. Nicki and Jon enjoyed their walks up to Dunkin’ Donuts to enjoy a cup of their favorite coffee or listening to music and laughing on the back porch, or just riding around to stores.
Jon enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies like playing his PS2 & PS3, watching movies, walking or cooking with Jess. He was content to enjoy his favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share his interests with others. Jon occasionally enjoyed helping Jess at Journeys End Animal Sanctuary as he always liked pets. “really I think he just didn’t want to be away from Jessica”
Jon was a lover of animals and cherished his pets. Some of his favorites were Quick, Comet, Tippy and Swirl, they were cats and during childhood Jon also had Oy-Oy the Guinea Pig, Rooter the Pot Bellied Pig, Smurf the brown dog and Reggie the poodle,
Jon and Jess were together 10 years and had circumstances been different he and Jess would have been married and lived happily together. Jon did not have children of his own, but was fortunate to have many children of family & friends in his life to love. Most recently he had Annalise who is Jessica’s niece…but you can be sure he was her “Unc Jon” and he loved her dearly.
Simply stated, Jon was a good and kind person, an individual who will be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Jon leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Jon.
