Donald “Sam” Baggett Bass, 77, of Ormond Beach FL passed away Monday, October 2, 2017. He was born August 30, 1940 in Mingo Township, NC son of Eliza and John Vernon Bass. Sam grew up in Dunn NC and graduated from Dunn High School Class of 1958. After attending college in Norfolk, VA, he enlisted in the USAF and was stationed in Homestead, Florida where he met his wife, Gini a Daytona girl in Miami attending nursing school. They shared 52 wonderful years together and raised two children, Cindi and Donald. Sam and Gini resided in Miami for 30 years. During that time Sam was the Director of Plant Operations at Doctor’s Hospital for 12 yrs. and Assistant Director at Baptist Hospital for 13 yrs. Sam and Gini moved to Ormond Beach where Sam was the supervisor of Housing Maintenance at Embry- Riddle, until his retirement in 2003. Their son and daughter followed them and enlarged the family. Sam spent a great deal of time with his granddaughters who he cherished. Hobbies Sam enjoyed included flying his airplane, golfing and bowling. Through flying he made many close friends. He instilled his interest in bowling to his daughter Cindi and granddaughter Kara who was the State Champion for the past 2 years in the under 10 and 12. While his children were growing up Sam coached youth softball, baseball, football and soccer. Sam loved the game of golf and was a member of the Riviera Country Club and the RMGA. He enjoyed football and was a Dolphin and UM season ticket holder for many years. When not golfing he was watching his teams. Sam loved to travel. He and Gini took many cruises and included their children and granddaughters. Sam will be in the hearts of the many that were fortunate to have known him. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Virginia “Gini” Adams Bass; daughter, Cynthia Bass Wilson Beissel (Brian); son, Donald Adams Bass (Sarah); granddaughters, Katie Wilson, Kristie Wilson and Kara Beissel; and brother, Harold Bass (Peggy). The family will receive friends Sunday October 8, 2017, 5-8 pm at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 548 N. Nova Road Ormond Beach. Funeral services will be held at Volusia Memorial at 3:00 pm Monday October 9, 2017 followed by burial in Volusia Memorial Park.
