Anita Helen Smith, 76, of Ormond Beach passed away Wednesday January 10, 2018 at Florida Memorial Hospital. Anita was born in Baltimore MD daughter of William Wallace Orange and Laura Helen Lillard Orange; original decedents of the House of Orange in Scotland. She graduated from Towson State Teachers College in Maryland and taught Elementary Education for 35 years until her retirement. She was an admired educator who not only shared her educational talents with children , Anita was instrumental in designing writing programs used by educators and frequently held writing seminars for them. After retirement she and her husband retired to Ormond Beach in 2003. Anita was an artist who enjoyed etchings in pen and Ink. In addition she loved to travel and took many cruses. Her last one was to Alaska and that completed her journey of stepping foot in all 50 states. She also enjoyed camping which she did with her husband for many years and raising miniature Schnauzers. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 34 years John L. Smith, Ormond Beach; brother, William Arthur Orange and his wife Wanda, PA; nieces, Stephanie and Bethanie; nephew, William W. and great nieces, Lauren, Summer, Sky, Star, Spring , Zoe and Mackenzie. A Celebration of Anita’s Life will be 11:00 am Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Tomoka United Methodist Church 1000 Old Tomoka Road Ormond Beach, FL 32174.
