“Coop” was born in Danbury CT. in 1949, the son of William and Jean Cooper. He grew up in Bethel Ct., and spent summers at his great grandfather's home in South Truro.
After he graduated from Joel Barlow High School in Redding CT., he moved permanently to Wellfleet with his family.
He began his first full time job as a truck driver for Nickerson Lumber Co. This would become a lifelong occupation. Whether he was driving heavy equipment for major construction projects, hauling fish from New Bedford to the Canadian Maritimes, chauffeuring people as a limo driver or shuttling guests to the beach and back at Ocean Edge Resort, he was usually behind the wheel of a vehicle. Later in life he started his own business, Used Brick and Stone, sourcing granite and antique bricks from around New England for high end landscaping on the Cape.
A Brewster resident for over 50 years, he enjoyed volunteering at the Stony Brook Grist Mill, driving the float for Brewster Daffodil Days, and helping out at Pleasant Bay Community Boating. He was as close to his friends as his family and had a close-knit group of buddies, who helped look out for each other.
He was predeceased by his parents, and his youngest sister, Karen Cooper. He is survived by his sister, Marnie Cooper of Wellfleet, his nephews Christopher and Timothy Miller, and his cherished great nephew, Nathaniel Miller.
A memorial service will be held on Sat., Nov.18 at the Wellfleet Methodist Church, at 11 AM, with visitation 1 hour prior from 10 – 11 AM. Donations in his memory may be made to Friends of the Truro Meeting House, PO Box 149, Truro, MA 02666.
