Pat was born to the late Radcliffe and Olive Morrill on Nov. 10, 1931 in Greenfield, MA. She graduated from High School in Concord and received a BA in Psychology and Religion from Colby College in Maine in 1952. She met on Cape Cod and later married the late William Ramsay of Yonkers, NY in 1954 and lived in Brewster on Stony Brook Road ever since.
Pat was elected and spent many years in the 60’s and 70’s on the Brewster School Board while her children were in school, chairing the Board for a time. She also worked for 22 years as a CNA at Cape Cod Hospital in Orthopedics. Pat was an active member of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Orleans. An avid baseball fan, Pat spent many years on the Board of Directors of the Brewster White Caps, the local Cape Cod Baseball League team, was instrumental in establishing the team in Brewster, as well as running the concession stand at home games and “hosting” players over many summers during the seasons.
Through her years of living in Brewster Pat loved spending time at the beach with her boys and sipping on iced coffee. She was an avid reader and rarely missed a Red Sox game on TV. She was also a fan of Carol Burnett, Red Skelton, Jackie Gleason, the Smothers Brothers, Lawrence Welk, Johnny Carson, and Ed Sullivan.
But Pat’s first and only true passion was raising her 5 boys (Stephen, she tragically lost when he was 9) of whom she was truly proud. Pat described raising her boys as “easy” and had a very close relationship with each of them. She said, “the mother-son relationship is special, and my boys are my greatest contribution to mankind. We didn’t have a lot of money, but we had unconditional love.” Pat served as a Cub Scout Den Mother for years, spoiled her boys at Christmas time, and allowed them the freedom to roam that only rural America can afford. Education was paramount to her and she was a stickler when it came to homework and grade achievement. Pat’s voice could always be heard in the stands encouraging her boys at every sporting event, of which there were many.
In 2003 Pat began losing her vision to a rare eye disease and was deemed legally blind by 2008. She moved to Brewster Place in 2014 where she enjoyed the many music programs and the “Namaste Room.” Because she was blind, “Alexa” became a constant companion reading her audiobooks, telling jokes, and informing her of the weather in between frequent visits from her family. This year Pat moved to the Pavilion Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Hyannis where she rediscovered social programs and some of her favorite foods. Ultimately, the isolation caused by COVID-19 precautions wore heavily on her wellbeing.
She is survived by her sisters Anne Stoneman of NC and Deborah Morrill (Dave) of FL, sons William M. Ramsay (Deb), Douglas F. Ramsay (Maris), Brett Ramsay (Lisa), and Scott J. Ramsay (Sue) as well as 11 Grandchildren, and 2 Great Grandchildren.
A graveside service in memory of Pat will be held on Sunday, Sep. 27, 2020 at 3:00 PM at Brewster Lower Road Cemetery. For online condolences and updates please visit www.nickersonfunerals.com.
