Katherine L. Chapman, 91, died September 18, 2017 at her home after a prolonged illness
Kathy was born May 18, 1926 in Norristown, Pennsylvania the youngest daughter of William Clarence and Mabel Hampton. She graduated High School in 1934 in Collegeville, PA, and as an RN from the School of Nursing of the Hospital of Pennsylvania in 1947. She was a member of the Nurse Cadet Corps during Nurse’s training.
She met and married Arthur Lewis Chapman November 12, 1949 in Collegeville, PA at her parents’ home. She worked as an RN at VA Hospitals on the East coast until after her marriage. Kathy was a member of the Holy Spirit of Orleans church. Kathy volunteered in the church thrift store for many years.
Kathy and her late husband, Arthur, lived in Springfield Virginia until he retired in 1974 from the Veteran’s Administration. They moved to Cape Cod after building their home, “Chapman’s Windrush”, in Eastham, MA. Kathy loved her home and was able to stay home in her final years with caregivers from Visiting Angels. Kathy’s caregiver for the past 20 months, Victoria Acheampong, was a patient, loving, caring true “angel”.
Predeceasing her are: husband, Arthur died in 1992, her sister, Adeline M. Jones in 2011 and her stepson, Daniel Patrick Chapman died in 2013.
Surviving Kathy are her step daughter, Theda Chapman Bordner and husband, Glenn, of Mt. Vernon, Washington and step nieces, Kathleen Crabtree and husband Bill of Phoenix AZ and Terry Ann Gallagher of Coupeville, WA. She is survived by four step-Grandchildren: Daniel Patrick
Chapman, Jr, Colleen Marie Reynolds and husband Chuck, Susan Adrian, and Eric Paul Haeker and wife Kim and step-Great Grandchildren: Keeghan Chapman and Kendall Chapman, and David Rupp and John Rupp.
Also surviving Kathy is her beloved, loyal Vizala Katie. Kathy loved dogs, and Katie was her fifth Vizala. Kathy also loved feeding and watching the birds, especially Cardinals. In her final days her bird feeders were moved closer to the dining room window where she could watch the birds feed and splash about in the bird baths. She collected old colored glass bottles, pewter and copper,
A committal service will be held at the National Cemetery in Bourne on Wednesday, Sept 20th at 9:45a where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 22nd at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Orleans.
