Joan Elizabeth McFadden

Joan Elizabeth McFadden, 69, died unexpectedly from a heart attack on July 17, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Elizabeth Yearing. She is survived by her daughter, Devon McFadden of Brooklyn, NY and her sister Carol Yearing Scarborough of Earleville, MD. She was the proud aunt of Michael Scarborough and his wife Heather, and Rebecca Scarborough.

Joan was born to August and Elizabeth H. Yearing in Hempstead, NY. She grew up in Glen Rock, NJ. She graduated from Glen Rock High School and attended Fairleigh Dickinson University. Joan was married to John McFadden, deceased in 2016, and had one daughter, Devon. They lived in Hawthorne, NJ but moved to South Orleans, MA upon John’s retirement in 1999. The marriage ended in divorce but they remained cordial and mutually devoted to their daughter, Devon, for the rest of their lives.

Joan was currently working for Latham Centers, Brewster, MA as an HR Benefits Manager for the last three years. Before that, she was Office Manager at Wingate (formerly Epoch), Brewster, MA for 18 years. She was an active member of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Orleans, MA, where she taught Sunday School for more than 20 years, positively influencing hundreds of children.

While her family and friends are shocked by her death, they are thankful for her life. She was a kind, thoughtful, nurturing, strong, and caring person, dedicated and supportive of her family and friends. She had a wonderful sense of humor. She had a way of knowing what to say in any situation and gave the best advice, but only when asked. She was most proud of her daughter, Devon, supporting her in all her endeavors.

A memorial service will be held at The Church of the Holy Spirit, Orleans, MA on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 11 am.
