Orleans – Jean L. Hammond died peacefully on September 28, 2015. Born Jean L. Chesley on December 25, 1923 in Wakefield, Mass, she was the only daughter of Marion (Haag) and Alfred Chesley. Jean graduated from Wethersfield High in 1941. Upon graduation, she attended Mount Greylock College. She worked at WDRC Radio Station after attending college, where she met her first husband, John A. Campion. She was a teacher's aid at Nauset Middle School and volunteered at Meals on Wheels and at an Orleans Thrift Shop.
Jean loved her family and had many close friends. Her favorite activities included traveling, playing cards with the girls, swimming at Crystal Lake and spending time in the sun at Skaket Beach.
She is predeceased by John A. Campion (her first husband) and James E. Hammond (her second husband) as well as her brothers Wallace and William Chesley. She is survived by her four sons James E. Hammond Jr. of Orleans, Bruce H. Hammond and his wife Majen of Brewster, Vaughn and Nancy Campion of Marstons Mills, John and Catherine Hammond of Brewster and seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Terraces in Orleans for their compassionate care and dedication.
A memorial service will be held on 2 pm on Friday, November 6, 2015 at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Orleans.
