Born May 31, 1924 to Edwin W. Crary and Margaret (Pope) Crary in Hartford, CT.
As a youth at summer sailing camps in Orleans, MA, David developed an early appreciation for the Cape. He attended Suffield, Emerson, and Clark Academies and lettered in football and skiing.
David served his country. During World War II, he enlisted in the US Navy, serving as a Quartermaster on PT Boat 348, Squadron 25 in the South West Pacific Theater. He was awarded a Purple Heart.
After the War, he attended Brown University and graduated from Bryant College in 1950 with a B.S. in Accounting. He lived in Providence, RI and in 1955 purchased a parcel of land in Eastham, MA. In 1958 he married Marilyn Derby and together they built Hidden Village, a modern style summer cottage colony. In 1960 they moved to Eastham and David opened his accounting practice.
David served his town. He was an Eastham Selectman, a Highway Surveyor, and a member of the Finance Committee, Planning Board, and Bikeway Committee.
David served his community. He was a member of the Nauset Regional School Committee, the Building Committee for the Nauset Regional High School, a founding member of the former Eastham Board of Trade and the former A.I.M. Medical Center. He was a Past Commodore of the Orleans Yacht Club.
Dave enjoyed reading, maritime and military history, sailing, skiing, body surfing, recumbent bicycle riding, and politics. At the end of this past tax season on April 19, Mr. Crary retired from his accounting practice.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn Derby Crary; children David Crary, Jr., Janet Crary, Edwin Crary and Melinda Crary Frey; grandchildren Daniel Demers, Zachary Demers and Thomas Frey; cousins Sally Roberts and Jane Higgins; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A celebration of David Crary's life will be held on Friday, September 16 from 1-3 pm at Van Rensselaer's Restaurant, 1019 State Highway Route 6, South Wellfleet.
