Patrick Jay Harrington, dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away at the age of 73 on December 29, 2022 in Orlando, Florida. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his immediate family and children.
Patrick was born the youngest of three children born to Mary and James Harrington on January 24, 1949, in Orlando, Florida. He grew up in Orlando and graduated from Oak Ridge High School. In 1968, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and fought in the Vietnam War. After coming home from Vietnam, he continued to serve in the Air Force, earning the rank of Master Sergeant. After more than 20 years of service, he retired from the Air Force in 1989. He was honorably discharged, and he always served his country with dignity and pride. After retiring from the military, Patrick entered the private sector and worked in the service, retail, and construction industries until December 2022.
Throughout his life, Patrick was a dedicated family man. He was a good son and a loving brother to his older siblings Marge and Michael. He was a caring husband, and a loving father and grandfather. His children and grandchildren were his life, and there was never a day that went by that he didn’t brag about and talk about them. He often said that his greatest joy was being a granddaddy, and it was obvious to everyone who knew him that it was true. He was very interested in the lives of his family and friends, and he kept in touch with them on a daily basis. He would drop everything at a moment’s notice to help his friends or anyone in his family. He would give his time, advice, support, money or anything else they needed, no questions asked. He would always try to help anyone who needed it.
Patrick enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially his children and grandchildren. He loved to tell them stories and make them laugh. He had a great sense of humor, he was a gifted storyteller, and he had a genuine interest in other people and their lives. Everyone who knew Patrick felt his big heart and his giving nature. He had a passion for helping people, and his selflessness and generosity were two traits that highlighted his personality. He never knew a stranger and he always made those around him feel welcome. Patrick also enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, boating, fishing, and camping. He loved to go out in the woods and just watch, listen to, and enjoy the surroundings.
Patrick was predeceased in death by his parents, Mary and James Harrington. He is survived and missed by his loving wife Juzefa (Irena); his children Patrick, Timothy, Ruta and Egle; his 11 grandchildren, Mirabella, Kingston, Daenerys, Gramm, McKinley, Kaleb, Cruzen, Kellin, Quinnelyn Grace, Vaiva and Ugne; and his great-grandson Vakaris.
Patrick will be truly missed by all those that he left behind. Our hearts are so broken by this unexpected loss. He was one of a kind and to be loved by him was a true blessing. At his request, there will be a private memorial service with his family.
