As a young mother, Melba, along with her husband, Uvindo Alfonso Gomez (who passed away in 1985), and their son Hubert Antonio Gomez (who was three years old at the time), immigrated to the United States during the “Freedom Flights” in the late 1960’s. This brave decision brought them countless blessings and opportunities, changing the course of their sons’ lives for the better.
Melba was known for her love of gardening, exceptional Cuban cooking, and fierce passion for domino games. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Hubert Antonio Gomez (Giovanna Gomez) and Leonardo Daniel Gomez (Amy Gomez); seven grandchildren, Lennie Gomez, Andrew Gomez, Rachel Robinson, Briana Gomez, Tabbitha Stewart, Daniel Stewart and Zechariah Gomez; four great-grandchildren; and her brothers, Edelberto Rojas, Bernaldo Rojas, and Hermogenes Rojas.
In accordance with Melba’s wishes, no funeral services will be held.
