George E. Schmidt, age 70, of Orlando, FL, passed away in hospice care with his loving wife, Carol Andrasik-Schmidt, by his side on July 26, 2024. He was born on January 16, 1954, in Brooklyn, NY, and grew up in Lindenhurst, Long Island. George was a devoted husband, loving stepfather, passionate music enthusiast, and a dedicated fan of the New York Yankees.
A lifelong Yankees supporter, George took great pride in collecting memorabilia from his favorite team. His love for music spanned many genres, from the traditional Irish folk tunes of The Chieftains to the improvisational brilliance of jazz legends like Miles Davis and John Coltrane. His love for music was a lifelong joy that he eagerly shared with family and friends.
George was an active member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Babylon, NY, where he celebrated his Irish heritage. In his earlier years, he shared his love of baseball with the youth in his community, coaching Little League in Lindenhurst and leaving a lasting impact on the lives of many young athletes.
One of George’s greatest joys was spending time with his beloved wife of over 45 years, Carol. Together, they cherished their time playing Bingo and embarking on memorable road trips to Foxwood Casino. He also treasured moments spent with his step-granddaughters, Heather and Abby, whether they were enjoying poolside games or embarking on shopping adventures.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Carol Andrasik-Schmidt of Orlando, FL; stepson, Stephen Andrasik of St. Petersburg, FL; sister Maureen Provo of Mechanicsville, VA; brothers, Thomas Schmidt of Sacramento, CA, John Schmidt of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Paul Schmidt of Lindenhurst, Long Island; Aunt Bridget of Palm Gardens, FL; Aunt Theresa of Peabody, MA.
George was preceded in death by his father, George Schmidt, mother Anne (Finn) Schmidt, and Aunt Kay of Lindenhurst, Long Island.
Cremation services are being handled by Baldwin-Fairchild Conway Funeral Home in Orlando, FL. It was George’s stated wishes not to have a formal ceremony, and he wanted to be remembered for his kindness, passion, and unwavering devotion to his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
He will be deeply missed.
