1932-2021
Elsie Maldonado was born in New York City on June 23, 1932. She married her first husband, Omar T. Morales, in August 1949. After moving back and forth between New York City and Puerto Rico, they decided to settle in the Bronx to raise their three sons: Steven John, Robert Omar, and Tomás David.
After her three boys left home, she started her journey to complete high school and went on to earn several degrees: An Associate’s degree from Manhattan Community College in 1972, a Baccalaureate degree in Social Work from Fairleigh Dickerson University in 1974, and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Fordham University in 1975.
She was certified by the National Association of Certified Social Workers in 1978. She had a long and distinguished career as a Social Worker and hospital administrator for the New York Health and Hospital Corporation.
She was known as someone who was community minded, volunteering for a number of organizations including St. Michael’s Church and the Spanish American Club of Co-op City.
In 1987, she married her second husband, Mario Maldonado, and after retiring they moved to Orlando, Florida in January 1995.
She is survived by her three sons, her daughters-in-law, Laura, Denise and Evy, seven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the loves of her life and she took pride and joy in each one of them.
