Our families were neighbors in Avon Lake for years. Chuck was a happy, kind, fun young man.  He always seemed genuinely happy to take the time to visit. We thought the world of him - and still do! We were so proud of his accomplishments, becoming a commander in the Navy. It was wonderful to share in the joy when he moved back in next door,  with his bride, Ruth, and later  to celebrate the birth of their son, Charles Jr. , with them. 

Personally, I treasured the thoughtful notes he wrote after we reconnected when his dear Ruth passed away. I am grateful for the memories we were able to relive in through those writings, and for having a few more years to share how much we and our families cared about one another, as truly good neighbors. 

The world has suffered the loss of a wonderful man, Commander Charles Hanus. I grieve for us all. But, most especially, I am sorry for you Charles Jr. and for your family.  May sweet memories bring you peace and comfort.
