Carlos was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Carlos Marin and Carmen Rosa. He went to school in San Juan and graduated from Law School at the University of Puerto Rico. In 1967 he married the love of his life, Lourdes Ledee in Ponce, Puerto Rico, where he moved and started practicing law and started a family with 3 beautiful daughters, Lissy, Mari and Karline. While in Ponce he was very involved in the community, as past president of the Ponce Rotary Club and an active member of St. Jude Catholic Church. In 1980 he moved with his family to Orlando where he continued to practice law, becoming the first Hispanic director of the Legal Aid Society. Always involved with the community, he helped Manuel Toro organize the first Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce in Orlando. He served in several other organizations and held positions within the community, such as Eucharistic Minister and active member of the School Board Foundation at Good Shepherd Church, among others. He had a private practice until he started working for the State of Florida as Chief Legal Counsel for the Health Department until his retirement in 2011.
With his wife of 53 years, he enjoyed traveling specially throughout Europe. Very known for his knowledge of history which he enjoyed talking about. Big fanatic of London and its culture. He was loved by many and cherished all the friendships he had.
Carlos was preceded in death by his parents Carlos and Carmen. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lourdes (Tatty), his daughters, Lissy Houseman, Maria del Carmen Marin, and Karline Cunningham, his grandson Jerry Del Castillo, son-in-law Mike Houseman and grand-dogs Henry Marin and Pepper Houseman. His sister Esther Marin of Orlando, Jorge Ripoll of Puerto Rico, and Mariemil Ottis of Tampa, and stepmother Esther Strubbe of Orlando and several nieces and nephews.
Eternal gratitude to all his loyal friends that helped so much with prayers and support during his painful three-year battle with ALS. Also, to the healthcare workers that did their job with so much love and compassion.
A visitation will be held at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home at Chapel Hill on Friday, January 8, 2021 from 5 PM to 7 PM - masks are required. A Funeral Mass will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 12 noon, with interment to follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery. Please know masks are required.
