Rosie, as she preferred to be called, was born in Ciales, Puerto Rico on February 3, 1934 to Maria Santurnina Santiago and Santos Salgado.
She was the fifth of nine children and was preceded in death by both her parents, sister Milla, brother Angel, sister Ana, sister Blanca and brother Flor. She is survived by her sister Celia, brother Wilfredo and brother Tony.
She married Victor Manuel Colón-Rodriguez in Puerto Rico on December 21, 1957 with who she had four children- Ana Rosa Colón-Liberatore, Victor Luis Colón, Ruth D. Colón-Arvelo and Maria De Lourdes Colón-Repass. She was preceded in death by her husband Victor in 2018 and her daughter Ruth in 2022.
She has two grandsons, Joseph Alexander Arvelo and Luis Manuel Arvelo. Together with Joseph’s wife, Rosanny Arvelo, she has a great grandchild on the way, which provided her with great joy at the announcement of the newest member of her family.
Mama led a life full of travel as a US Army wife along with her children, she discovered other countries from Germany, Italy and Africa to all across the United States. But it was the love of her hometown of Ciales which lived most in her spirit of humor, family gatherings and music.
She exemplified Faith, Elegance, Vitality and Joy of Life for those who surrounded her, and will continue to live in that spirit in all her loved ones to carry until that ultimate day, where we will all be united again.
A gathering of family & friends for Candida will be held Thursday, July 27, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Homes, 1413 South Semoran Boulevard, Orlando, Florida 32807, followed by a memorial service at 6:00 PM.
