Nieves Lopez Sanchez

Born on July 28, 1925, in the town of Baler, Tayabas (Aurora), Philippines, Nieves, fondly known as Ate/Tita Bebeng and Nanay, touched the lives of many with her kindness, strength, and sense of humor.

Nieves was a woman of remarkable spirit—witty, carefree, and always seen with a smile. She loved music and could always be found singing, dancing, or playing the piano. She was a gifted and prolific storyteller who loved to tell jokes and make friends and loved ones laugh. Most often these tales would center on her quick wittedness and her life growing up in the Philippines. Nieves spent her life with her family; sharing meals, traveling together, and spending late nights around the mahjong table. From Baler to Worth to Burbank to Orland Park, Nieves's home was abundant with joy and laughter from her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who always made time to visit their Nanay. Even those who only knew her briefly were touched by her personal warmth, natural charisma, elegance, good humor, and lack of pretension.

Above all, Nieves will be remembered for her love - of family, of prayer, of life - and her absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Nieves is survived by her loving children, Nieves (Alberto) Bonifacio, Rosalyn (Frederick) Magsino, Bayani (Bernadette) Sanchez, Enrico (Elizabeth) Sanchez, Emmanuel (Susan) Sanchez, Maria Emilia Sanchez, Maria Vivian (Peter) Sanchez, 25 grandchildren, and 50 great grandchildren.

She is the last survivor of 8 children. She stood proud as the matriarch and last survivor of the Lopez family and her late husband's family.

Nieves is preceded in death by her parents Pedro Lopez and Felicidad Trinidad, her siblings, her husband Bayani Sanchez, her children Arthur Sanchez and Florentino Sanchez, and her grandchildren Gregorio Bonifacio and Harrold Sanchez.

Visitation for Nieves will be held Thursday, August 15, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Orland Funeral Home, 9900 W 143rd St, Orland Park, IL 60462, where a second visitation will also occur Friday, August 16, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral to begin Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 9:00 AM at Orland Funeral Home proceeding to St. Michael Church, 14327 Highland Ave, Orland Park, IL 60462 for a 9:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
