Charles Hoover Moody, 95, went to be with the Lord on January 16, 2022, from Buffalo Crossing Assisted Living Facility, in The Villages, Florida.
Charles was the son of the late Ernest and Nettie Caldwell Moody. He was born in, Maggie Valley, North Carolina, April 13, 1926. He was retired with 30 years of honorable service in the Navy where he advanced within the ranking of Boatswain's Mate to Aviation Electrician Senior Chief Petty Officer. He was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal (8th award), Navy Unit Commendation, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, World War Il Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, Word War Il Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Cross of Gallantry). He protected his Country as he fought in World War Il, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He drove the Higgins boat in the Battle of Okinawa. Charles served as a Maintenance Engineer for Cedar Hills Baptist Church where he also was a devoted member and Deacon. He was Maintenance Engineer at the Baptist Towers. Charles worked a few years in the Real Estate Field. Charles joined the Wesconnett Mason Lodge 297 in 1958. He served as the Worshipful Master for the Lodge in 2011.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Nettie Caldwell Moody, by his wife, Hazel Leatherwood Moody and his second wife, Lillie Brown Moody; by brothers and sisters, Ernest Moody Jr., Wayne Moody and Donald Moody, Ruth Moody Henry and Lucille Moody Peters; also extended family Robert Brown, Charlie Brown and Christian Brown.
Surviving, sister, Susie Campbell and several nieces and nephews, and extended family members Charles Brown (Jeannette).
Charles and Hazel were married in Waynesville, North Carolina for 57 years. Their surviving children are his sons, Carl. E. Moody of Jacksonville, Ronald K. Moody (Mary) of Jacksonville, and his daughters, Sandra Moody Markham (Tom) of Lakeland, Florida, and Debra Moody Young (James/Zip) of Oxford, Florida. Charles enjoyed the love from his eight Grandchildren, Kimberly Danjou (Casey), Monica Foye (Eddy), Sam Parker (Sherri), Blake Moody, Tonya Nelson (Dave), Luke Markham, Lori Toth (Henry), Ashley Boyett (Jeremy); and from his 19 Great-Grandchildren, Kahlee Shackelford (Caleb), Toney Betsill (Corrin), Bryce Danjou, Jackson & Grayson Foye, Delaney & Riley Parker, Ryan & Elin Moody, Reagan,
Reese, & Ryn Nelson, Carter, Logan, Grayson, & Reid Markham, Blake & Liam Toth, and Taylor Boyett. Charles had two Great-Great Grandchildren, Raelynn & Kaden Betsill.
Rev. Thomas Markham will be officiating the service for Charles at the Hardage - Giddens Rivermead Funeral Home, 127 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, FL 3207 on February 1, 2022 at 1:00 pm with the visitation starting at 12:00 pm. Interment will be at Jacksonville Memory Gardens with Military and Mason representation, officiated by Rev. Thomas Markham or Chaplain Dave Nelson.

Pallbearers will be: Jeremy Boyett, Blake Toth, Luke Markham, Blake Moody, Sam Parker, and Henry Toth.
