Bernard "Bernie" Harris was 82 years and one day old when he was promoted by the Commander and Chief on Friday, November 19, 2021, after suffering a stroke in late September. He now lives in glory!
Bernie was born November 18, 1939 in Norfolk, Virginia to James B. Harris and Tessie V. Ward. He was a United States Navy Veteran who served as a Radarman Class A in the late 50s.
He went to work mainly in sales, working for others and eventually for himself. He was quick to tell anyone about his business failures, but always gave God the honor for any of his successes.
Bernie is survived by his wife and best friend of 40 years, Mavis Bennett; his daughter Jennifer Hornak (John); his son Shaun Harris (Lisa); his step-sons Philip Pastis (Kami) and Adam Pastis (Kara); sister Judy Edwards (Val); brothers Ronnie Harris and Billy Harris (Sue); four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Participating in the service is Pastor Keith Merriman of the Grace Brethren Chapel, in Gibsonburg, Ohio. Bernie regarded Pastor Keith as one of his closest friends.
