He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Lucy (Caterino) Guarnieri. He is survived by his loving children, James L. (Denise) Guarnieri, Janice (Frank) Bianchi and Doreen Kroll; his grandchildren, James R. Guarnieri, Christina Bianchi and Jason Kroll, Patrick Bianchi, Nancy Kosto, Cary Kroll, Angela and Frankie DiStefano; great-grandson, Anthony James Guarnieri and great-granddaughter, Liliana Rose Guarnieri;, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Nick and Georgeann Caterino of Palmyra, New York and many loving nieces and nephews.
James was retired from Gannett Newspapers, Rochester, NY. He was a World War II veteran and was stationed in Pearl Harbor, Scofield barracks during the Japanese attack. James served six years in Company D United States Army 35th Infantry and was Honorably discharged in 1945. He married his Lucy on April 27, 1946.
James enjoyed sports, especially bowling and golf. He and his wife were active members of the Loyal Order of the Moose Club since 1988 and the Sons of Italy. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States of America, Post 1457 and the Disabled American Veterans.
After his wife passed, James enjoyed time with his family playing computer card games and Wii bowling and golfing. Because of declining health, his daughters moved him to Florida in 2010 to be in their care.
A Memorial Mass was held at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Deltona, Florida.
A military burial will be held in Rochester, New York at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery on Saturday, January 11th at 11:00 am. Family and friends who wish to attend the ceremony are asked to meet at Halloran Funeral Home, Chili Avenue at 10:00 am for the vehicle procession to the cemetery chapel or you may meet the family at the cemetery.
