Orlando, FL age 89 passed away on October 13, 2015 at the Orlando VA Community Living Center. Jacob served our country during WWII, Korea and two Vietnam tours in the US Army. He retired after 26 years of service and achieved the rank of CSM (Command Sargent Major E-9) the highest rank an enlisted person can attain. Jake was born in Manuel, Kentucky. He was predeceased by his wife Beulah Miller in 2014 whom he was married to for 25 years, his brother Lee Miller and parents, Jess and Merry Miller. Jacob is survived by his daughters Jackie in Virginia Beach, Virgina, Janice and husband Gary in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Jeannette and husband Joe in Suffolk, Virginia, son, Jake and wife Marla in Virginia Beach, Virginia; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his step children, daughters Judy husband Mike in DeLand, FL; Linda and husband John in Sedona, AZ and son Don and wife Regina in Madera,CA; 5 step grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren.
At age 17, on March 13, 1944, Jake recounted that he was hoeing a garden and suddenly threw down the hoe, looked up the hill and said I'm not doing this any more. He walked ten miles to Hazard, Kentucky and told the Army recruiting officer he was 18 years old. The third day of May 1944 he woke at 2:00 a.m. and walked nine miles to the train station and headed Fort Thomas, Kentucky where he began his military career. During his military journey he earned the following: Bronze Star, Army Commendation, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Emblem, Joint Meritorious Unit Emblem, American Campaign Metal, European African Metal Eastern Campaign Metal, WW11 Victory Metal, Army of Occupation Metal, National Defense Metal, Korean Service Metal, Vietnam Service Metal, Combat Infantry Badge and United Nations Service Metal. Retired March 30, 1971
A visitation for family and friends will be held Friday October 16, 2015 10 to 10:30 AM at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home. Military Honors will be held Friday October 16, 2015 12:30 PM at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Ave, Bushnell, FL 33513
