Fred John Arndt

On the morning of April 7, 2015, Frederick “Fred” John Arndt, Sr. of DeBary, FL passed away while being attended by health care specialists at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Deltona, FL. Fred was 84 years old.

Fred was born in Philadelphia in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on February 22, 1931. He was the second son of three boys born to Albert Sr. and Mary (Lenihan) Arndt. He attended and graduated from Catholic schools in the Philadelphia area and completed two years of college as well.

Fred proudly served his country for 20 years in the US Navy and after retirement became a supervisor with the United States Postal Service for another 15 years. He was active in the VFW and other fraternal organizations.

One of Fred’s obsessions was the Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies, 76ers and Flyers sports teams. He never missed watching a game and had the uncanny ability to watch several at one time and always knew exactly what was going on in each game. He was also an avid golfer and played in tournaments in the Bahamas, Cuba and on many courses around Central FL. He achieved six hole-in-ones during his golfing career. Fred also loved to dance and in earlier days, he and his wife, Jennie, could be found on the dance floor doing the jitterbug or his favorite Latin dances.

One of Fred’s most endearing qualities was his warm smile and the ability to love and accept people just as they were. His laughter and story telling lit up the room and made people feel at ease. He will be sorely missed by all.

Fred was preceded in death by his father and mother, Albert Sr. and Mary Arndt, and his two brothers, Albert Arndt, Jr. and Paul Arndt.

Fred is survived by his wife, Jennie Neff of DeBary, FL, two sons, Frederick “Freddie” Arndt, Jr. and John Paul Arndt both of Orlando, FL, one daughter, Michelle Harris of Gainesville, FL and three grandsons. He is also survived by his children Jim and Barbara Neff, Apopka, FL, Will and Susan Frey, DeBary, FL, Pamela Malloy, Orlando, FL, two grandsons, three granddaughters and 10 great grandchildren by marriage.
