Our dear friend, Liz, went to be with our Lord on January 14, 2016 in the Halifax Healthcare Center in Orange City, Florida. She was ill for a very short period of time, after surviving 7 weeks of radiation for lung cancer. She was admitted to the hospital on December 28, 2015, was moved to a nursing home on December 31, 2015, and was finally placed in Hospice Care Center on January 14, 2016, where she passed peacefully just four house after admittance.
Liz was born in Chesapeake, Virginia on August 18, 1935 to Amos Overton Brady and Mary Mabel M. Kerns. She was one of three children, a brother Alton and a sister Kathryn, both of whom have already passed away. She is survived by her niece, Linda Kathryn Morris, living in California.
She married her beloved Benjamin (Ben) Vergara, August 22, 1969 in Norfolk, Virginia. Ben was a navy man and they traveled extensively, finally settling in Deltona, Florida in 1972 where they bought their one and only 'little bit of paradise'. Ben passed away on May 23, 2006 and is interred in Bushnell National Cemetery where Liz will be buried.
Liz was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars- Ladies Auxiliary- Post 8093, Debary, Florida for many years, serving three times as its president with one term as president of district 19. She became a member of the Korean War Veterans Association-Central Florida- Chapter 153 in the late 1990's. In 2006 sehe became Chaplain and Publicity Chairman, going on to serve as Sunshine Chairman and Chaplain in 2009. She was elected 1st vice president in 2010 and went on to hold presidency from 2011 through 2015. In 2016 she was elected president again but, unfortunately, she passed away.
She will be greatly missed and we will keep her memory in our hearts always.
