Daniel C. Simmons, 82, of Deltona passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2015. Born in Newport, RI on August 1, 1933, he was the son of the late Christopher J. and Pauline H. Simmons. He was a U. S. Army veteran, serving in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was awarded the good conduct medal and a bronze star. He was honorably discharged in 1972 after proudly serving his country for 22 years.
Following his military service, Mr. Simmons worked for and retired from the State of Florida Dept. of Corrections, then as Head of Security for the Brunswick Corporation and Zellwood Station Retirement Community.
Mr. Simmons was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of St. John’s Lodge No. 1 in Portsmouth, RI, a member of the Scottish Rite and a Knights Templar in Tokyo, Japan.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Charlotte M. Simmons (nee Cole); his children Sandra L. Coelho (Joe), Robert O. Doyer III (Donna), Lottie H. Bethea (Joseph) and Pauline Gordon; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home on Monday November 23rd from 4 – 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday November 24th at 1 p.m., with burial to follow in Deltona Memorial Gardens
