June Marjorie Terhune

June Marjorie Ruezinsky was born on Sunday, November 4, 1928 in Passaic General Hospital, Passaic, NJ. The attending doctor was the poet William Carlos Williams. Her parents and she moved to Secaucus, NJ, on account of the Great Depression, where both sides of the family were located and there she grew up. She was active in Girl Scouts, running errands for the neighbors, and helping her brother, who was four years her junior. She attended and graduated from business school. When she was 16, she was introduced to her brother's Sunday School teacher, Charles Terhune. They fell in love and were married on November 17, 1946. Their first child, son Paul, came the last day of 1948. They moved briefly to Reading, PA, because of Charlie’s work, where daughter Elaine was born in 1950. The family returned to Secaucus, and June began to work outside the home as a secretary and office manager, mostly for various trucking companies. As the children grew, she was active at church but also found time for hobbies—ceramics, needlework, and painting. She continued to work as the kids went off to school, Paul studying for the ministry, and Elaine studying to be a teacher. She and Charlie relocated to McAfee, NJ, where they had a second home and they continued to be active in establishing a new mission church in Hamburg, NJ.

In 1986, after retirement, they moved West after the birth of their fourth grandchild, to Ontario, CA. They continued to be active in church life, both at Redeemer Lutheran, Ontario, and then at Hope Lutheran, Glendora. She enjoyed working with the senior ministry, the LWML, and Lutheran Braille Workers. Following the death of Charlie in 2003, she continued to live in the house on ‘H’ Street until a broken hip forced her to relocate to assisted living. Even there she was well known for her cheerful disposition, sharp wit, and care and concern for others.

She was called home to be with her Lord on Sunday, November 3, 2024, one day short of her 96th birthday. She is survived by Paul and Lynn Terhune, Elaine and Chuck Lieder, grandchildren Katherine Adams, Liz Owen, Matt Terhune, and John Terhune, as well as seven great-grandchildren.
