Bud was born on June 9,1952 in Ontario, California to father, Cecil Garrison and mother, Elsie Remke.
From birth, Bud attended the Ontario Foursquare Church, where he learned about and fell in love with Jesus. He sang in their crusading choir, attended church camps each year and, as a teen, worked at Camp Cedar Crest in Running Springs, California.
Bud attended Vineyard Elementary, Imperial Junior High, and Chaffey High School. He was in the Acapella Choir and was cast in three different musicals, one of which he prided himself on his lines, “Would you like to buy a chicken?” He loved to tell that story. He graduated from Chaffey in 1970.
Bud joined the Army in 1972 and served four years in the 82nd Airborne as a Paratrooper. It was in the military that he met his lifelong friend, Dennis. When they were on leave, they traveled through many states, which enhanced and impacted Bud’s love for history and his ability to remember all the details.
After his service, Bud moved to Fresno, California where he began his career as a Lineman for the Southern Pacific Railroad. He met and married Paulette Spencer in 1982. Bud would say that his greatest accomplishment and blessing came in 1986 with the birth of his only child, Seth.
In 2005, Bud moved to Upland, California and began attending Life Bible Church. He volunteered as a greeter because he loved interacting with all the people. He really enjoyed the weekly Men’s Bible Study Breakfast at Sammy’s. He also helped out teaching Sunday School for the Singles Ministry. It was there that he met and married Antoinette Guynes. Together they lived a quiet life which revolved around their beloved dogs, Heidi and Cally.
Bud was the athletic one in the family. He learned to water ski as a child and excelled at it. He glided across the water, signaling the boat to take him faster than most people would dare to go. He could ski with no hands, hold the rope with one foot, and even learned to ski barefoot.
Bud’s pastimes were reading, watching old movies, and woodworking. He really enjoyed making tiny sailboats out of cork and didn’t call them complete until he saw that they actually sailed. Each item he whittled or created was done so with a sentimental reason for it’s purpose.
Bud also frequented yard sales and accumulated so many tools that his son wonders what he is supposed to do with such an abundance of drills, routers, hammers, and at least a thousand wrenches, not to mention an assortment of antiques. For Bud, each item had a special meaning or story behind the necessity of it’s purchase.
Bud loved to talk. He was gifted in his ability to stay connected with others and let them know how much he loved them. For some, he called them almost everyday. Those calls are already greatly missed.
Bud is predeceased by his father, Cecil Garrison, and mother, Elsie Remke. He is survived by his wife, Antoinette, from Upland, California; son, Seth (Vicky) Garrison, from Fresno, California; mother, Betty Garrison, from Upland, California; sister, Cindy (Gary Hubartt) Garrison, from Scottsdale, Arizona; brother, Lonnie “Duke” Garrison, from Riverside, California; brother, Kenny Remke, from Fresno, California; sister, Roxe Anne (Wayne) Long, from Fresno, California.
