Barry Douglas DeThomas was born December 12, 1948 in Los Angeles, CA to Madeline June DeThomas (Nichols) of California and Anthony “Tony” DeThomas of Pennsylvania. He grew up in Azuza, CA where Madeline worked as a Hairdresser and Tony worked as a Furniture Craftsman.
Barry graduated from Charter Oak High School in 1967 and enlisted in the United States Air Force shortly after. He served in the Vietnam conflict from 1968-1971 as a member of the 18th SOS unit, serving 2 tours of duty. For his heroic actions of putting out a fire that threatened to destroy an AC 119 gunship he received a Bronze Star, as well as other service related commendations
Barry met Margo through Barry’s Aunt Joyce while serving in Vietnam. After writing to one another they met and then married in 1972 living in Upland, CA and Rancho Cucamonga, CA. In 1980 they took in their nephew Danny Switzer and raised him as he was their own. In 1985 their daughter Katie DeThomas was born.
Barry worked for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics for 32 years and had just recently retired. Barry was a devout Christian, attending numerous churches; most recently Water of Life in Fontana, CA. Barry was a wonderful husband, father, brother, and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.
