He was born Oct. 1, 1934, to Mary (Barbera) and Phillip Spezio, who immigrated to New Jersey from Sicily, Italy. Peter grew up in Garfield, N.J.
He was a Veteran of the Korean War in the United States Navy, and had a life-long career with Singer-Kearfott as an electrical engineer.
He retired to the Oneonta area and married his long time love, Vivian, on July 4, 1997.
Peter loved spending time in nature ("up on the Hill"), hunting, salmon fishing and with his grandchildren.
Pete was appreciated for his sense of humor and loved dining and sharing meals with loved ones. He was a devout Christian who found comfort in his faith.
Peter was predeceased by his sister, Josephine Culka; and brother, Joseph Spezio.
He is survived by his son, Darren Peter Spezio and his wife, Roberta and their children, Shay Elizabeth and Shane David; wife, Vivian Spezio; five children, Catherine Spoor, Teresa (Lysle Rose) Bell-Rose, Deborah (Vern) Glidden, Edward Whispell (Vivian Thurber), Christine Whispell (Matt Indovina); 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Anthony Spezio; sisters, Joan Spezio, Carmella Pinto and Phyllis Sabo; brother-in-law, Charlie Colka; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life is to be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 23, at Hill City Church, 1796 County Rd. 48, Oneonta NY, 13820, with a luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Catskill Area Hospice would be greatly accepted.
