She was born July 9, 1935 in Oneonta the daughter of the late Howard and Lillian (Cain) VanBuren. Tink is survived by her four children, Melissa and Tony Martin of Vernon, CT, Margaret Potucek of Pottsville, KY, Louis Johnson of Oxford and Lillian Johnson of Sidney Center; 15 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; one brother, Howard VanBuren, Jr. of Canandaguia; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Lloyd Johnson; her daughter, Melanie Cammisa; and two sisters, Clara Simmons and Virginia “Ginny” Scanlon.
Tink worked in the medical community for many years, first as a nursing assistant at O’Connor Hospital in Delhi for 18 years and then working at Dr. Mahadeva’s office in Delhi and at The Hospital in Sidney. She was also a substitute teacher at BOCES. Not one to sit still, she also volunteered at Birthright in Sidney.
Tink was very talented at knitting and crocheting and enjoyed making gifts for family and friends. She is remembered for her a great story telling and quick witted jokes. Tink’s door was always open with a warm meal on table, and she welcomed many family and friends throughout the years. She was a very devoted mother and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of the Elk’s Ladies Auxiliary in Sidney and Sacred Heart Church in Sidney.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2016 in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta from 9:00 to 11:00am. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00am with the Rev. Bernard Ampong Pastor of Sacred Heart Church, Sidney officiating. Burial will be in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
