John P Maloney

He was born November 25, 1952 in Plattsburgh the son of John J. and Ruth (Jensen) Maloney.

John graduated from Oneonta High School the Class of 1970 and then Delhi Tech in 1972. He enlisted in the United States Marines and then the Reserves and was discharged in 1978.

Following his discharge, John married Lisa Leib in Oneonta.

He worked at the family business, J.J. Maloney Company, a wholesale candy and tobacco distributor.

Shortly after a devastating fire in 1992, he went to work for Mountain Candy & Tobacco in South Fallsburg NY. He later went on to work at Ben Funk, Inc, to be closer to home. John retired in 2016 due to illness.

John loved sports. He played basketball in high school, softball, golf and ping pong. He was an animal lover especially cats.

John is survived by his wife, Lisa Maloney and her family. He also leaves behind two cats, Mia and Milo, that he adored. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Ruth Maloney.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024 at 11:00 am in the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta with the Rev. Stephen D. Fournier officiating.
