Born in the living room of the family farm on May 16, 1932, to Claude and Anastasia (Cramer) Bliss, Ann was the younger sister to Claud, Carl and Clyde Bliss. As an adult she told about her father bringing the runt of the litter of pigs inside and tucking it under the covers with her, sledding during recess at the one room schoolhouse in Whigs Corners, buffing eggs by hand to prepare them for shipment to NYC, attending suppers at the Grange and riding on the back of an Indian Motorcycle with one of her brothers while they went to get the cows for milking. There was no sound sweeter to Sis than the sleigh bells on the horses when her father hitched up the team and took her and her friends for a ride.
Ann graduated with the class of 1950 from Cooperstown High School. During her teens she could be found attending dances with a group of friends or roller skating at the rink on Canadarago Lake. Ann was employed at the soda fountain at Withey's Drug Store in Cooperstown, waitressed at various area restaurants, was the personal secretary to the chief of Surgery and later a receptionist at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, ran Fairy Springs and Three Mile Point Parks with her family for the village of Cooperstown, ran the concession stand at Gilbert Lake State Park where she also liked to picnic and camp, and worked for the Board of Cooperative Educational Services until her retirement in June of 2011. Ann was a Cub Scout den mother, Volunteer Fireman with the Mt. Vision Fire Department, and enjoyed attending concerts, Science Fairs and other school events her children and then grandchildren were involved with. She enjoyed preparing large meals and feeding others.
Ann is survived by her daughters Stacy Grover-Simonds of Maryland, NY and Carla Grover of Fly Creek, NY, her grandchildren Judd, Joshua and Jessica Grover and Alison Mattice, her brother Carl Bliss of Encinitas, CA, her sister-in-law Josie Bliss of Cooperstown and many nieces, nephews, and close friends. She was predeceased by her husband Wayne Grover and sons James and Michael Grover.
