I was blessed beyond measure to go to Oak Valley School where Mrs. Johnson was principal.  I absolutely adored her.  I remember how any student earning 100% on that week's spelling test got to go to her office to pick out a sticker.  What a treat!  Mrs. Johnson was a beautiful and classy woman.  She was always so put together and I loved all the jewelry she would wear.  The climate at Oak Valley was evidence of her love of children and education.  She expected her students to be respectful and hard-working.  Mrs. Johnson was one of the reasons I went into teaching.  She was a wonderful woman, and the world is a much better place because she was in it.

We loved getting to know Rick and Norma over the years at the Okoboji cabin.    They always welcomed us when we were visiting Tim and Molly and took time just to chat and catch up with us.  We looked forward to these talks!   

Rob and I always admired their love for each other and their strong marriage.  You could tell after all the years together, they still were best friends and still loved to tease each other.  

Rob and I also always noticed (and admired) their love for their family and grandchildren.  

We will miss her!    May God be with your whole family during this difficult time.

Norma was a wonderful person, a great educator and a fantastic mentor to many young teachers including myself. She was fun with a great sense of humor who worked very hard to education children. Norma will be missed and will never be forgotten.

Mike, Mitch and Colleen, Mark, Grands ~ I was so sorry to hear that your Mom, Grandma, and my good Lake Friend Norma, left us this week. The wonderful memories of her over the past almost-25 years at Okoboji are abundant ~ and will always bring a smile to my face! I am comforted knowing she is with Rich again, and I picture them as they once were in a bar booth across from Tim and me at Minerva's: heads tilted together and smiling at each other as they, virtually non-stop, belted out a hilarious series of old-time, slightly-bawdy, ditties in near-perfect sync & harmony! For the better part of a quarter hour we, and everyone around us, were entranced . . . and rolling with laughter! Together again, and healthy, I see Norma looking at Rich with outstretched arms as she proclaims, "It's a Great Okoboji Day!"
