The “Dash”
Lonnie married Doris N. Jones on 5 July 1954 and would have two children, Anthony "Tony" Lamar and Claudine "Dena" Laraine. Lonnie made a wise and honorable decision to serve his country in the United States Air Force in 1955. During his first enlistment, he was scouted by a major league baseball team, the Brooklyn Dodgers, but would choose his family over baseball. He would achieve much during his service, ultimately serving and retiring after 22 years. He would travel the world on remote assignments and TDYs, spending 10 years in the European theater with his family. He gave his children a world view unknown to most people, exposing them to different cultures and people, permitting them to visit famous locations throughout Europe.
After retiring from the United States Air Force, Lonnie would be offered an opportunity to work for Bellevue Assembly of God (Bellevue Christian Center) serving the computer ministry, which was in its infancy. He would teach himself multiple computer languages in order to position and provide the church with the ability to grow technical capabilities over many years. Lonnie would learn to repair and network the computers as the church grew. He would work for the church for 33 years in this capacity. He would also serve as a church deacon and fellowship group leader with his wife for more than three decades. Lonnie loved many things including baseball/softball, football (Go Huskers), racquetball, fishing, gardening, tech (gadgets, gadgets, gadgets), learning new things, travelling, BBQing, and food. But, most of all he loved God, his family, and his friends. He had the absolute best smile which he freely shared with everyone. He possessed the best laugh, nearly breathless when something was truly funny to him! He was a genuinely a kind soul.
Lonnie joins his parents, Lonnie M and Ella Mae Hyter; his sisters, Catherine Hyter, and Claudine Henry; and brother, Willie Hyter in Glory. He leaves behind his wife of 69 years, Doris Hyter; son, Anthony Hyter and daughter-in-law Tammy Hyter; daughter, Claudine (Dena) Howard and son-in-law Russell (Doug) Howard; grandchildren, Anthony Hyter II and wife NeKesha Hyter, Julian Hyter, Brittney Hyter, and Bethany Hyter-Jenkins and her husband Kenny Jenkins; great-grandchildren, Mariah Hyter, Jakhi Miles, August Hyter, Canyon Hyter, Anthony Hyter III, Anthony Hyter IV, Andy Hyter and Alani Jenkins, and coming to a delivery room soon Andy Hyter II(?); as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
The list of friends Lonnie loved would fill this and many more pages! On his behalf, thank you all for loving my family upon this transition to be with my Lord and Savior. See you all soon! Please know my family is grateful for your kind words and caring gestures, thank you for loving them.
