Irene Justine Gill

Irene Justine (Wijtek) Gill (74) of Papillion, passed away on December 5, 2022. Visitation will be held between 6pm to 8pm on Thursday, December 8th at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home located at 5701 Center Street. Immediate family members will give Irene a private burial the following day.

Irene was born in Germany to Dmytro and Julia Wijtek on March 19, 1948. Her family immigrated to the United States and subsequently moved to Omaha when Irene was three. She attended elementary school at Saint Wenceslaus, High School at Omaha Central, and then graduated with a degree in Elementary Education from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She married John Carl Gill on November 29, 1969 in the Assumption Ukrainian Church. Irene worked as an elementary school teacher at both Saints Peter and Paul and Saint Stanislaus for over 30 years.

Irene is preceded in death by her parents, Dmytro and Julia Wijtek, her husband John Carl Gill, his parents Jeremiah Thomas and Eileen Gill, as well as Jeremiah Thomas Gill II, and Jerelene and Ronald Rumbaugh.

Irene is survived by her children John Carl Gill II, Katrina (Jamie) Glover, and Jim Gill her siblings, Myron (Marie) Wijtek, Julie (Allen) Klostermeyer and their children Sarah (Tom) Burnett, Joshua (Jessica), Megan, and Matthew Klostermeyer. Irene has three grandchildren: Malisa (Michelle) Kringle, and Sophia and Charlotte Glover.

Memorials may be given to Josie Harper Residence Hospice House.
