Frank was born and raised in Waverly, Iowa, and grew up swimming, running, and playing various sports. He served in the United States Army for 2 years and later moved to Omaha where he was employed by and eventually retired from Western Electric (or AT&T or Lucent, etc)
He was an avid runner and bicyclist, competing or participating in marathons, 10K runs, triathlons and bike rides across the state of Nebraska.
Frank loved and was a caregiver to his wife Rose who battled kidney loss and the lifestyle that comes with dialysis for over 23 years. He missed her every day of his life for the last 18 years. Indeed, he was speaking of her on his last day.
He spent the last 3 months at Hillcrest Millard Rehab, where he changed the dynamics of the place. Soon he had residents meeting for meals and meeting outside. He rolled through stopping at people’s rooms, encouraging them, and inviting them along for the ride. He and two others were known as the Three Musketeers. It was not uncommon to pull into the parking lot for a visit and see a bunch of them sitting outside (with visiting family) solving world problems. Multiple residents, family, and staff told us about the impact he had there.
Like the thief on the cross (Luke 23:42-43), Frank accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior very late in his life- a strategy we do NOT recommend. Because of this, he was at peace in his last hours on earth, and now, so are we.
In lieu of flowers, we suggest a donation to the Kidney Foundation or Fresh Hope for Mental Health.
