Byron was born on December 8, 1947, in Omaha, Nebraska to Byron Lynn Head Sr. and Mildred Head. He served on a submarine in the United States Naval Forces from 1968 to 1970. For most of his life, Byron worked for Enertech Electrical as an electrician, but at the end of his professional career he worked as an electric inspector for the city of Omaha. He was married three times to Joyce, Linda, and Elizabeth "Becky" Beals. He had many hobbies including: photography, playing guitar, motorcycles, and flying model helicopters and drones. Religion was deeply important to Byron. For most of his life, he attended Cavalry Chapel with Pastor Steve Johnson. He wrote and performed songs with his youngest daughter, Marissa, at services there.
His daughter Marissa remembers him as a thrill-seeking father who used to take her on adventures like long motorcycle rides through the Nebraska countryside, attending air force shows, listening to concerts in the park, swimming and sailing on lakes in Nebraska where they often camped, watching action-adventure films from the 90’s at the theatre, and doing photography together with the latest cameras. He shared his love of flying electrical vehicles and helped her become the first girl to solo in Nebraska.
