Alan Brent “Al” Kennedy was born on January 15, 1944, in Auburn, Nebraska to Charles and Alberta (Hall) Kennedy. He was the third child of seven which included Willis, Terry, Kathleen, Jeanie, Charlene, and Kevin. His family moved around Southeastern Nebraska and finally settled at 5520 P Street in Omaha, Nebraska.
His youth and teenage neighborhood roots and friends were integral throughout his life. Al attended Ashland Park Elementary and Omaha South High School before moving on to trade school and an apprenticeship to become a union carpenter at the age of 17. He began dating the love of his life, Barbara Anne “Barb” Harder, whom he married on September 12, 1964, at the age of 20.
Al worked as a carpenter, eventually starting his own framing business, and retiring after more than 40 years from the carpentry trade. In 1972, Al built his own home where he and Barb raised their three children (Alan, Heather, and Chad), during their 58 years of marriage, and he lived until his death. Al became “Grandpa” to three boys (Austin, Dylan, and Aiden) who brought him much joy, especially in his later years.
Al had an infectious personality that naturally pulled people to him for kinship and unforgettable memories. One of the many things that attracted his family and friends was his quick wittedness and great sense of humor. Throughout Al's life he made an impact on everyone that knew him. Al's life was centered around his family, his work, his faith, and his many friends.
He was married to the love of his life, Barbara Anne (Harder) Kennedy on September 12, 1964. Al died peacefully with his wife by his side on July 16, 2023.
Preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Renner (Kennedy); sister, Charlene Kennedy; brother, Terry Kennedy; brother, Kevin Kennedy; and parents, Charles and Alberta Kennedy.
