Karen Virginia Slade was granted her angel wings on Sunday, September 23, 2018. She passed peacefully at Germantown Methodist Hospital surrounded by family after a long battle with kidney cancer. Karen’s life would seem brief to many, but those who knew her would understand that her quality of life far exceeds the quantity of time that she spent here on Earth. Karen will forever be remembered by her family, her Abundant Life Church family, the youth group she ministered to, and her cleaning club. Karen was born on May 3, 1962, in St. Louis, MO to Kenneth Ray Pyatt and Helen Virginia Pyatt. She is survived by her parents; husband Jeffrey L. Slade of Byhalia, MS; two sons, Joshua (Morgan) and Timothy (Stacy) of Olive Branch, MS; and her brother Ricky K. Pyatt of Burford, MO. Karen loved flowers and worked as a florist for five years. She provided beautifully crafted flower arrangements for friends and family weddings years later. Karen also loved being around the youth and helping them in their walk with Christ. She liked to act like she was one of the kids. She would take time out of her week to spend individual time with youth even when there weren’t scheduled events. She loved the youth as if they were her own family with many still calling her mom today. She was a big collector of “I Love Lucy” memorabilia and of Christmas villages and houses. She was always unique in her interests and hobbies. Karen was a dedicated wife, staying true to the Biblical meaning of motherhood and love. She always kept a tight ship on the house and always pushed her boys to their utmost potential. She supported her husband in any way she could, even if it wasn’t considered a “normal” wifely duty. Family will receive guests on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Brantley Funeral Home, 6875 Cockrum St. Olive Branch, MS 38654. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 10:00 am at Brantley Funeral Home.
