George leaves behind his loving wife of 42 years, Trudy Gibbon Allmon; his son Tom Allmon and wife, Sissy; his son John McSpadden and wife, Susan; his son Barry Allmon and wife, Michelle; his daughter Kelly Trouy and husband, Jeff; his daughter Cammie Robison; and his sister, Elizabeth Lawrence. He also leaves 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, George W. Allmon, II and Juanita Overstreet Allmon; his brother, Thomas Lee Allmon; and his son-in-law Brian Robison.
Born and raised in the city of Memphis, George was proud of his heritage. He graduated from South Side High School in 1960 where he played football and was affectionately known by the nickname, “Allmon-Joy”. He continued to be a loyal, life-long supporter of the Scrappers. He earned his Bachelor of Manufacturing Engineering Technology from the University of Memphis.
Collierville First Baptist Church was George’s church home where he was an active member and volunteer until moving to Olive Branch in 2019. He loved his church, especially his tight-knit Sunday school class and had a passion for serving his church family.
George retired from Carrier Global Corporation in 2006 after 25 years of service. He was also a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he served from 1960-66. He was most proud of his time as a photographic repairman, where his cameras took photographs of the Berlin Wall and Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Services will be held in the Collierville First Baptist Church, on Thursday, November 17, 2022. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by a worship service at 11 a.m. Please visit the Brantley Funeral Home website for more information.
