Florence Chamberlin

Her life began in Eupora, Mississippi, coming from humble origins. She related to her favorite country artist Loretta Lynn with the lyrics of Coal Miner’s daughter being comparable to her life growing up “In the summertime, we didn’t have shoes to wear but in wintertime, we’d all get a brand-new pair.” Florence was the definition of someone who was not proud and did not think she was above others. She had a vision to obtain a better life for herself and her family in order to provide for all their needs and be able to give more. Her passion and confidence led her to a successful career in sales starting out with selling various items to the locals in Memphis, Tennessee. On her way to work she would see Elvis driving around his pink Cadillac. She raised her two beautiful children in the city of Memphis, where at this time she would be a server at the local drug store restaurant downtown. A quarter tip to her felt like a million dollars as this was her stepping stone for success. She met the love of her life, Freddie Chamberlin in Olive Branch at Power of Light in 1962 that blossomed the beginning of a wonderful life together. Her and Freddie tied the knot and shared 58 years of marriage. With small children in the household, Florence wanted to have a more flexible work schedule in order to spend time and care for her children. The job that helped her achieve this is what would become her lifelong career in Avon. Being nicknamed “The Avon Lady” she started a recruitment program that skyrocketed her career and became the top Avon recruiter in the Memphis metropolitan area. There were no limits to where she would go to give someone a chance to be successful and make them feel beautiful. In the height of her career, her downline had about 5.8 million in sales. Despite her busy schedule, she found the time to be with her grandchildren, who she loved dearly. Most importantly, she prioritized her time spending time in the word and being close to her Lord and savior Jesus Christ. She fully surrendered her life to Christ through baptism in the previous year. Her children and grandchildren would hear her harping on how Jesus said “If any man desires to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all” (Mark 9:35 KJV). Florence demonstrated this verse well throughout her life by putting others before herself with a joyful heart. Everyday she lived by the Golden rule that is inscribed in every Christians heart. She was very loved by many and will be missed dearly.

Florence was preceded in death by one son, Alvin Ray Edwards; her parents, Odis Pearson, Sr. and Nora Thurman; sisters, Doris McCarthy, Martha Blaylock; and a brother, Elmer Pearson.

Florence is survived by her loving husband, Freddie Chamberlin of the home; two daughters, Donna Haven of Walnut, Mississippi; and Freda Curl and husband Billy of Blytheville, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Gabrielle Curl and special friend John Hixon, Cody Haven, Abigail Curl-Hackworth and husband Scott, Brandon Curl, and Rick Curl; and one brother, Odis Pearson, Jr.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2024 in the Brantley Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Greg Hazelrig officiating. Burial will follow in Bakers Chapel Cemetery in Hernando, Mississippi. The family will receive friends Monday, November 11, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Brantley Funeral Home.
